Elevating Your Career through Mentorship Virtual Panel

Looking for a mentor but don’t know how to get started, or wondering how serving as a mentor can help you move forward in your career?
Join us on Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 11:30 – 1:30 pm to hear from a diverse group of female accountability professionals, moderated by Audit Manager Elena Tercero CPA, on topics ranging from how to initiate a mentor relationship and get the most out of your discussions to the differences between formal programs and reaching out informally. Their reflections and advice will surely help you figure out what opportunities for mentorship there are, how it can be a source of momentum and leadership, what there is to learn, and how those lessons can last throughout your career.

Elena Tercero has over ten years of experience working in New Mexico State government. She is currently an audit manager with the Office of the State Auditor. She served as Administrative Services Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Finance and Administration where she oversaw the agency's budget and finance staff. She previously was the Chief Financial Officer of Children, Youth and Family. She also has over 10 years of experience in non-profit accounting working as the Chief Financial Officer of a private high school as well as being a member of the accounting staff for New Mexico’s only family homeless shelter.
Elena holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of New Mexico, a Masters degree in Finance from the College of Santa Fe. She is also a Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Public Accountant, and Charted Global Managerial Accountant.
Elena is currently the President of the New Mexico AGA Chapter, the chair of the AGA Professional Certification Board, a member of the AGA National Governing Board and a board member of New Mexico DECA. She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have four children. In her spare time she enjoys training others as a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and precision nutrition level 1 nutrition coach.
Yoko is a principal in BerryDunn’s Government Consulting Team. She co-leads the Compliance and Risk Management practice, which provides compliance assurance services. Since joining BerryDunn in 2012, Yoko has helped state and local governments strengthen internal controls to protect their resources from waste, abuse, and fraud, and improve operational efficiency while maintaining compliance.
Prior to joining BerryDunn, Yoko worked for the Office of State Auditor in Massachusetts for over eight years.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Massachusetts Boston, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Information System Auditor, and Certified Government Financial Manager.
Outside of work, Yoko is an active member in her community. She is an incoming president for AGA Boston Chapter. She is a co-organizer of a community with over 600 members that connects Japanese-speaking women in the Boston area, and a co-founder of a community where Japanese-speaking professionals educate and inspire one another to improve racial and gender equality in their professional careers and personal lives. Yoko is also the proud mother of two daughters, Mia and Anna.
